Project Overview
An urban home extension with a flat/low-slope roof that was prone to water ponding. The project demonstrates Storm Guard's standing-seam technology as the ultimate flat roof solar solution, eliminating water ponding while generating clean energy.
Project Challenge
Flat or low-slope roofs are notoriously susceptible to water ponding and severe leaks during heavy rain. The homeowner wanted to add solar power, but installing traditional rack-mounted panels would require heavy concrete ballasts, adding dangerous dead weight to the structure and creating traps for debris and stagnant water.
Sunlit Solution
We deployed the Storm Guard series specifically for its standing-seam interlocking profile. This design is perfect for low-slope applications. Acting as the primary roof, it creates a 100% watertight barrier that actively channels rain away, completely eliminating the risk of water ponding. By eliminating the need for heavy ballasted racking, we significantly reduced the structural load. The 6 kW system generates around 6,500 kWh of clean energy per year.
Architectural Outcome
The project record uses Storm Guard’s standing-seam profile as the primary roof surface on a low-slope extension, avoiding the separate visual layer associated with ballasted racks.
