Project Overview

A compact single-family home retrofit in a high-density Shanghai neighborhood, requiring typhoon-rated solar integration with a custom skylight. The project demonstrates Storm Guard's superior wind-uplift resistance and ability to accommodate complex architectural features.

Project Challenge

Located in a high-density neighborhood in Shanghai, this compact home required a complete roof retrofit. The region experiences annual typhoon seasons with severe wind gusts and torrential rain. The homeowner needed a heavy-duty solution that offered absolute structural security without looking like a bulky industrial add-on. The architectural design also included a massive custom glass sunroom/skylight cutting directly into the roofline.

Sunlit Solution

The Storm Guard series was the ultimate fit for this urban retrofit. Its robust, vertical interlocking design provides superior wind-uplift resistance against typhoons while rapidly shedding heavy rain. Despite the compact footprint, the system maximizes energy output. The Storm Guard tiles were custom-flashed and seamlessly integrated around the large skylight—proving that rugged, typhoon-rated weather protection can accommodate premium architectural features.

Architectural Outcome

The Storm Guard roof surface uses vertical interlocking profiles around a custom glass skylight, giving this compact urban retrofit a single, continuous roof treatment.
